They like money- it’s because most of the locum and senior consultants get paid ridiculous amounts. A middle-sized hospital can easily take 20+, with each one getting paid generous 6-figure salaries…then add the upper management and the directors who get paid that much or more!

  • dnafairy:

Well first of all, you are paying for people who get service and don’t have health insurance.

Then you’re paying for ungodly expensive insurance for the hospital and doctors.

You also have to pay artificially high salaries for doctors because of AMA limited supply and artificially increased demand (you don’t need doctors for half the services you are required to go to them for).

    it goes on and on

  • Chupate esa!:

Because is like gas they can charge what they want for whatever reason…

  • bankobush:

    doctor fees

    OUTSOURCE THEM
    like the did the auto

  • Stereotypemebecauseyouknow:

Don’t worry, Obama will give it to you for Free. No one will ever have to pay for it again. It will be free.

  • joe d:

There were many others there at the ER that have no way to pay, you paid so much so that all could be seen.

There are laws that say people cannot be turned away from the hospital. So the price of payers goes up to cover non payers.

My insurance company was billed $ 1,800 because a PDA just looked at my broken foot nothing else he did not even touch it. I told the insurance company and they still paid. They charged for each digit that was broken.

    Because of greed and profit.

Just be thankful you got out of there alive – half the time those ‘doctors’ will kill you or make you worse.

  • kathy_is_a_nurse:

Part of the problem is that you are also helping to pay for those who came in to the ER and won’t pay their bills.

Another part of the “cost” is that rather than getting an itemized bill that says $ X for administrative services, $ X for doctor/radiologic consultation, $ X for nursing services, $ X for blood drawing services, etc., they attach a dollar figure to the deliverable that (attempts to) calculate who handled that deliverable all through the process and what their time was worth.

I’m not saying that’s the way it should be, but that is typically the way it is done.

They have to pay for that big building and cover the people that come in without any money or insurance. Have you ever bought a MRI machine??? Do you know how much that X-ray machine they used on you costs? Millions, that is what it costs. That is why health-care costs money.

Get a job and pay for an insurance plan, then your bill would only be around $ 100 of an ER visit like that.

If you think health care is expensive and they don’t do much, wait until it is “free” and run by the government, then you will see how cost effective and productive it was.

Because private insurance has to pay :

Multimillion dollar salaries and benefits to useless C.E.O.s

Trillions on Medical billing with thousands of forms specialized for each HMO.

Hundreds of Millions to pay for HMO adjuster to look for pre-existing non covered conditions. To look for other insurance coverage you have so the hmo can pay less. And to have insurance bully to deny you coverage.

The uninsured that the doctors, nurses, and hospitals charge the insured to make up the difference.

The same doctors, nurses, and hospital that have their medical bills slashed to almost nothing when the hmos pay the medical bills.

The same doctors, nurses, and hospitals that wait and wait forever to get the hmos to pay the medical bills.

The same doctors, nurses, and hospitals that have hmo refusing to pay , pay so little, or pay so late. It cuases them to refuse patients with this insurance.

Let me get this right. You went to a facility with an x-ray machine (Go find out how much one of those things cost) Staffed by Medical professionals that need to be available and ready 24 hours a day. The reason why the price is so high is that they need to pay for all that dam hi tech stuff and people they just might need if you or someone else you love needs is in a worse situation. Ace bandage I hope they did not just hand it to you but also put it on and showed you how to properly wrap the bandage for your particular injury. If they did not you should have asked you know you are going to get a bill so get all the information you can you are paying for it . You are also paying for those who do not pay. Thank you by the way for paying your bill. I paid $ 150 and I have heath care My daughter had the audacity to spike a 205 temperature on a weekend when my DR. and the clinic was closed. They looked her over took her temp and gave her a prescription I then had to pay $ 50 for because she can not take the generic brand. Hate to say it but Medicaid and medicare, you know the government run heath care plans that are going bankrupt, are also making prices higher than they should be. They restrict payment for services. I favor a user payer plan. I use heath care I pay for it. I get to deduct medical from my taxable earnings. Get rid of all the insurance companies that are stupid enough to pay for Viagra and all the paperwork they create. I pay my Dr. and if he is charging me to much I shop around for a better price or better service.

  • tabby101:

Much of the reason health care has skyrocketed is because of the price of malpractice insurance. The doctors have to pay more, so they charge more.
