by Doug Desjardins Retailers have always been anxious to get the ball rolling on holiday sales, and this year is no exception. And with several surveys showing that consumers plan to start Christmas shopping earlier than usual this year, retailers are already one-upping each other. As usual, Wal-Mart was first out of the box. In mid-October, it launched its first Black Friday promotion by pricing pre-orders on ten soon-to-be-released hardcover books by popular authors like Stephen King an

by Doug Desjardins Cyber Monday has become such a staple of retail-speak that it’s hard to believe the term has been around only a few years. And while the origins of its sister term Black Friday are fairly well-known, the roots of Cyber Monday are not common knowledge. Credit for coining the name goes to Shop.org, a division of the National Retail Federation (NRF) that first used the term in reference to the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2005. As the automotive industry restructures itself, dealers may find that this is a good time to pay closer attention to the “best practices” that will help them retain service customers. The automotive service consulting firms recommend examining three priorities: customer service, convenience and follow-up. Customer service may seem to be well in hand.
